01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
Perched on the 9th floor of a building in Ginza 5-chome, Yakiniku Kamui offers set tasting menus and à la carte dining centered on Kamui, its proprietary Kuroge Wagyu beef raised with care on an affiliated ranch. The meal opens with "Cho-Consommé," a concentrated beef broth steeped to draw out a pure, savory depth that sets expectations for the meat courses ahead. Crisp, refreshing raw kimchi and assorted namul provide light bites before diners turn to Kamui yukhoe, a seasoned tartare finished with a rich, glossy egg yolk.
Among the grilled items, the "Mino-mon-tan" platter stands out by pairing tongue with upper mountain tripe (mino). Alternating between the tender bite of the tongue and the firm, crunchy chew of the mino gives two contrasting textures on a single plate, naturally complementing a drink. The evolving sirloin sukiyaki presents lightly seared ribbons of tender sirloin accompanied by an aromatic burdock espuma and rich egg yolk. Any remaining sauce can be poured over rice, leaving nothing to waste.
After savoring the straightforward beefiness of skirt steak and lean cuts, many guests finish with the signature beef fillet katsu sandwich. Thick yet tender, the fillet is kept gently rare within, framed by toasted bread and rich demi-glace sauce. Desserts such as house-made pudding and almond jelly round out the dinner, lingering comfortably at the close.
Accented with bonsai and a refined modern Japanese aesthetic, the dining room consists entirely of private and semi-private rooms. Guests can converse comfortably without distraction from surrounding tables, making the space well suited for dates, anniversaries, and business dinners when quality yakiniku is called for. The kitchen's beef-focused dishes can be enjoyed leisurely alongside beer, wine, or whisky.
